This is the time of the year when many industry experts and researchers make all sorts of predictions for the year ahead. Hence, a security expert predicted that the entire Internet will be shut down for 24 hours next year.

In Die Hard 4.0, the fourth chapter of the saga Die Hard released almost a decade ago, Bruce Willis faces a hacker who manages to create the so-called Chaos Total, an attack that does fall all infrastructures of the country and therefore creates a financial, health, social chaos, etc. But what was a film may become a reality next year.
As the terrible forecast comes directly from the LogRhtyhm, an American security technology company. According to the vice president of the LogRhtyhm, James Carder, in the sometime next year 2017, the entire Internet network will be disconnected from all manner for 24 hours.
Nobody in the world can access any part of the Internet that will be dropped completely and “if the internet goes down, the financial markets will collapse,” he adds the security expert, outlining that it is not a simple prediction, but based on a large number of events that have occurred throughout 2016.
The vice president of the LogRhtyhm, James Carder said that “We saw the massive ‘distributed denial of service’ against DynDNS just a couple of months ago. That DDoS attack took down sites like Twitter and Spotify for a few hours. We saw a similar DDoS hit Brian Krebs before the attack against Dyn. These were really just tests”.
James Carder argues that these were only tests facing the final attack: “If you can prove that you are able to knock down massive websites and a host of US Internet for several hours, a total blackout for 24 hours seems simple to achieve.”
The sites of false content, the same as Facebook and Google are already fighting is another evil that the company LogRhythm believes will get worse. Hackers are targeting media giants like CNN and Fox News, and predicting that “respond to the threat false news trying to implement some kind of media control that will surely go too far,” says Carder, referring no doubt to the efforts of Facebook after what happened during the American elections in their own social network.
“I think the hackers, in the name of protecting our freedom of expression, fight back knocking down one or two media empires”. The truth is that what this security expert describes most seems to be the plot of a dystopian futuristic novel that of a plausible event for the next 12 months.
But given the year we’ve had, what has happened and seeing fronts to fight like false content growing, it is still disturbing to think that the basis for that to happen are already settled.
Even if that total and catastrophic blackout – a collapse of the financial markets, even if it were only 24 hours, would be something devastating, do not happen in 2017, there is still doubt whether someone, once just starting a DDoS attack, will cause the chain reaction.
