Did Facebook Helped Donald Trump Win The Election?

Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook is facing huge criticism due to promoting some fake news that spread like fire on the social network during the election. Mark Zuckerberg thinks it didn’t influence the outcome of the recent election.

Mark Zuckerberg on Thursday rejected all the criticism that claims counterfeit stories were shared at the social network paved a path of victory for President-elect Donald Trump.

President Barack Obama also called out Facebook by name the day before the election “As long as it’s on Facebook, and people can see it, as long as it’s on social media, people start believing it,”

However, Mark Zuckerberg while rejecting all the ideas said “The idea that fake news on Facebook, which is a very small amount of the content, influenced the election in any way I think is a pretty crazy idea” at a Technology technology trends conference in California.

Mark Zuckerberg asked why people would think there would be hoax stories about one candidate but not for the other. Facebook’s news feed is specially designed to show users the most suitable content, creating what some describe as a “Filter bubble” that reinforces a person’s view without injecting differences in option.

Mark Zuckerberg said, “Voters make decisions based on their lived experience, you don’t generally go wrong when you trust that people understand what they care about and what’s important to them and you build systems that reflect that.”

Mark Zuckerberg later said that almost everyone at Facebook has different thinking in terms of religion, ethnicity or background. He also said that people are less inclined to click on the links that don’t line up with their views.

When Zuckerberg was asked about checks and balances needed to keep Facebook in line he said “listening to what people want”, “My goal, and what I care about, is giving people the power to share so we can make the world more open and connected. That requires building a good version of News Feed. We still have work to do on that. We’re going to keep improving it.”

He further said, “On the community guidelines, I think as norms change and people want to see more news, I think we’ll have to continue to evolve the guidelines to reflect the value that the community holds.”

Mark Zuckerberg while being more diplomatic said “Well we have a lot of work to do,” he said. “But that would have been true either way.”
