Huawei Sues the U.S. Department Of Commerce!!

Well, if you are staying updated with the latest tech news worldwide, you might know about the ongoing battle between the U.S. government and Huawei. US Government has imposed a commercial ban on Huawei, and the ban is slowly impacting the reputation of the company.

It looks like the US-China trade war is nowhere close to getting settled as Huawei has now filed a lawsuit against the US Department of Commerce. The reports from Bloomberg states that the Chinese Giant Huawei is suing the agency for having its telecommunications equipment seized.

In the filed lawsuit, Huawei said that it had shipped computer server and Ethernet Switch from China to a testing laboratory situated in California. After the testing was done, the equipment was sent back to China. At that time, no application for the license was made because none was needed.

However, the equipment was seized in Alaska by the officials, as it was on its way back to China. This move was taken by the U.S. Department of Commerce to check whether an export license was needed to ship the equipment. The lawsuit also stated that Huawei provided the officials all required information for the shipment, and since the equipment doesn’t fall under the controlled category, there’s no need for the license.

“The equipment, to the best of HT USA’s knowledge, remains in bureaucratic limbo in an Alaskan warehouse” the lawsuit states. Huawei then asked the U.S. Department of Commerce to decide if the equipment was shipped illegally or release the shipment. However, the commerce department didn’t respond to a request for comment.

“Defendants have neither made a licensing determination for the equipment nor even indicated” when the decision will be made. Not only that, but the lawsuit also states that the American officials ‘simply left the equipment in limbo’

The lawsuit has been filed in the U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C. The lawsuit also names the Office of Export Enforcement and Bureau of Industry. So, what do you think about this? Share your views in the comment box below.
