We all know very well that Kodi is one of the best programs that have been created in recent years, as its possibilities as a multimedia player are endless, and thanks to it, as it simply allows us to play all kinds of content regardless of its source, whether it is streaming torrent or even watching Netflix in Kodi.

Here’s Why Kodi Didn’t Come Pre-Installed On Smart TVs

Kodi is one of the best programs that have been created in recent years, as its possibilities as a multimedia player are endless, and thanks to it, as it simply allows us to play all kinds of content despite its source, whether it is streaming torrent or even watching Netflix in Kodi.

Kodi is available almost for all devices available on the market (for both x86 or ARM processors)

Currently, there are few devices that are not capable of running Kodi, as if we go to the official website, in the download section we can see that any device with an x86 processor that uses Windows, Linux or macOS can simply open it.

While in mobile platforms, there are apps available for both the well-known platforms, of course, iOS and Android, and we even have versions for Raspberry Pi, BSD, and devices with i.MX6 chips, but, here the fact is that all these are simply maintained by the community itself and not by the XBMC Foundation.

However, the fact is that the major number of television manufacturers simply do not include this program, of course, Kodi for several reasons. And among all those reasons, the first and the most important one is that they are not interested in doing so.

As all the well-known and major manufacturers like the South Korean giant Samsung, LG, and Sony have their own local content players, which simply allow us to play files that we have on an external hard drive, pendrive, on a NAS or on any device connected by DLNA.

While the second one is that Kodi is not available for the operating systems that use televisions, although they could create an app for them with little effort since televisions also uses the ARM processors, the same architecture as our mobile phones uses in which the app is available.

While the South Korean giant Samsung simply uses Tizen on their TVs, while LG uses webOS. In the case of Sony, it is possible to install Kodi because it uses Android TV, but its installation is not so simple, as errors or compatibility problems may occur.

A TV with “Android TV” or an external device that allows installing Kodi is the last option

Therefore, we already find several disadvantages, as to do so simply we have to create a specific app for these systems and not only that event it would involve going through the verification process of Samsung and LG.

Hence, the most logical thing is that neither of the two manufacturers is in favor of introducing an application that allows pirated content with relative ease by installing add-ons. Hence, the only option to have it currently on a TV that does not have Android TV is to buy an external device that allows it, like a TV Box with Android OS, a mini-PC or a Raspberry Pi.

As an alternative to Kodi, Plex is present in some televisions, but the fact is that it does not allow the installation of add-ons in the way that Kodi allows to reproduce other content. Having Kodi directly on our television would solve many problems; Especially since there are many times that some files do not play correctly with the players incorporated by Smart TVs.
