OMG! Musical.ly Is Officially Dead

The well-known karaoke application, of course, I am talking about the Musical.ly changes its name and from now onwards it will be called Tik Tok. The exchange of names occurred as a result of the sale of the company responsible for the social network to another Chinese, ByteDance.

Musical.ly started as a social network created in China in 2014, focusing on small 15-second videos where the user dubs a song that plays and shares the result. Even though little known in India, the network already accumulated 100 million active users per month and in 2017 was sold to another Chinese brand that also makes apps, ByteDance and that has an app called Tik Tok.

Today both applications were merged and functions were summed up on both sides of the deal. The 15-second videos still exist, but it will lose one of the main features that made the Musical.ly famous: lip sync with the music it plays.

It’s too early to tell if the change will make users search for another app, or if the name of a Kesha song will attract even more music enthusiasts. At least the comments from the Play Store are pretty agitated about the name change and the functions that were present.
