OnePlus 5 & 5T Can’t Play HD Videos From Netflix

These days several users have noticed that, when trying to watch HD content on Netflix, an American entertainment company founded by Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph through their flagship killer smartphones of the well-known Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus, of course, I am talking about OnePlus 5T and OnePlus 5, the application is unable to display HD resolution based contents.

However, the problem that affects the smartphones of the well-known Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus also concerns other streaming video services such as Amazon Prime Video, Google Play Movies and other platforms that work with high definition video.

The OnePlus 5T, as it happens with its predecessor, has a powerful Hardware and a FullHD or FullHD+ screen capable of offering amazing and high-quality images. Without going any further the current top of the range of the Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus, has a 6-inch screen with 18:9 display format and the powerful Snapdragon 835 processor with at least 6 GB of RAM, so it is certainly capable of showing movies and series in high definition.

Why both OnePlus 5T and OnePlus 5 are not able to play any content on Netflix in HD?

As it was discovered in Reddit, the problem is not found in the hardware of the device, but in the software and specifically in the lack of support for Widevine Level 1, certification required by many services for HD transmission.

In other words, if your OnePlus 5T or OnePlus 5 does not allow you to view HD content on Netflix or the mentioned platforms, it is because you do not have the necessary certification to reproduce this type of streaming service content protected by DRM systems. this problem is recurved in other mobiles, such as the ZTE Axon M, which is also a sales success in many countries.

Only SD (Standard Definition) content

The OnePlus 5T, as well as the OnePlus 5, is currently compatible with Widevine Level 3, which only covers SD (standard definition) streams. That is why none of the two mobile phones is capable of reproducing streaming video services contents above this resolution.

As expected, just after the news, the well-known Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus has ensured that a future update for the 5T (nothing is said for the OnePlus 5) will allow its users to enjoy the Widevine Level 1 certification, but no further details have been given. So we can not talk about an estimated date in which this “patch” or update would reach the owners of the phone.

The lack of support for the transmission of content in high definition is a strange omission that we can’t explain. However, let’s hope that the Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus gets down to work as soon as possible to solve this problem.
