The Bullitt Group partnered with the Cat in the UK with the aim of developing the world’s first Android smartphone with an integrated thermal camera. This thermal camera is able to measure the temperature of surfaces at distances of up to 30 meters and detect heat.

As we all know that basically, these type of devices are extremely expensive and strictly used only by the law enforcement or military and special agents. But, now the thermal cameras are accessible to everyone with a smartphone known as Cat S60. Yes, with the new Cat S60, the thermal imaging sensors start to be incorporated into smartphones.

The thermal camera incorporated into the Cat S60 is actually designed by FLIR and with it, the users can detect loss of heat around windows and doors or detect the areas of concentration of moisture. This camera can also be used to detect overheating or failure of circuits in electrical appliances.

The Cat S60 is the first smartphone to feature an integrated thermal camera sensor which is not exactly thin. The new Cat S60 has a little over 12mm thick body but seems not enough to be a big problem as it is not geared to the average consumer who wants to thin devices that fit in your pocket.

There is no doubt that the biggest selling point of this Cat S60 is its thermal camera, but to be designed almost exclusively for “heavy duty” still offers much more to its users. It is certified waterproof up to 5 meters and able to withstand these conditions for at least one hour. The Cat S60 is still strong enough not to yield drops of up to 1.8 meters.

Overall the Cat S60 is a robust device, as it has a strong construction which is designed for the use in areas of difficult access. However, the most striking aspect of this device is that it is manufactured by FLIR which is the world’s largest commercial company specializing in the design and production of thermal imaging cameras, components, and imaging sensors.
