CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk is making plans to launch more than 4000 satellites into the space to provide global internet access. His company SpaceX has outlined the plans to bring faster internet access to the entire world.

SpaceX will launch more than 4000 satellites into low-Earth orbits to provide faster internet access to the entire world. SpaceX has also filed an application to the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) requesting the permission to launch such a huge number of satellites.

SpaceX said in the FCC filing “The system is designed to provide a wide range of broadband and communications services for residential, commercial, institutional, government and professional users worldwide”

Elon Musk is already working on this plan since early 2015. In early 2015 he estimated that the project would cost around $10 billion and will take approximately 5 years to complete. The latest documents only show technical details. FCC filings show that the proposed network will launch 800 satellites to begin and will expand the internet connectivity across the US.

According to Engadget, each satellite will weigh around 850 pounds and size will be about the size of an average car. The satellites will be launched into orbits ranging from 714 miles to 823 miles (1,150-1,325 km).

The FCC filing says that the system is “designed to deliver a wide range of broadband and communications services for residential, commercial, institutional, government and professional users worldwide”

The aim of SpaceX is to deliver high-speed internet by replacing current cable and fiber optics. However, the SpaceX hasn’t provided any further details about the launch date of the network.
