Google is reportedly developing a new feature for the Google Phone app that will allow users to identify unknown callers on their Android devices online directly within the app.

The new button called “Lookup” was spotted by a tipster, code-digger, and X user AssembleDebug, who then informed PiunikaWeb. This tool was initially available only to Pixel users in Japan but is currently being tested in the beta version 127.0.620688474 of the Google Phone app.

The new Lookup button, a user-friendly addition, pops up when you tap on a call from an unknown number in the ‘Recent’ calls tab of the Phone app. Upon tapping, it opens a Google Search window with the number already entered for you. It seamlessly integrates with other options like ‘Block’ and ‘History’ on the recent call screen in the Phone app.
The Lookup feature aims to reduce the effort of copying unidentified numbers and pasting them into a Google Search window to identify the caller. This feature is also particularly useful for individuals who often come across unfamiliar phone numbers or receive an increasing number of spam calls from masked numbers made to look like local calls.
While the Google Phone app is the default for Pixel phones, other Android owners can also enjoy its benefits by downloading the app. However, the exclusive ‘Lookup’ feature is currently only available in the latest beta version of the Google Phone app, adding a touch of exclusivity to your phone experience.
