India Asks Google “How To Convert Black Money Into White”
As we all know in a major step to check black money, Indian Prime Minister Modi shocked the entire nation by announcing demonetisation of Rs 500 and 1000 currency notes. There is the huge rush outside every bank and post office because of peoples trying to exchange their existing Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes.
The announcement to demonetise Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes came with a stated aim of curbing black money, corruption and tax evasion which is causing much panic among citizens. Now it seems like Black money holders in India turned to the search engine for seeking help.
“How to convert black money into white” was trending on the Google search engine since Narendra Modi has announced the ban on Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes. Banning Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes have resulted in rendering almost 86% of currency in circulation.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley told reporters about the massive move taken by a government to curb black money and corruption “This one decision will change a social culture, in the way people keep money and spend”, “The honest person has the satisfaction to be honest and the not-so-honest worry.”
The most shocking thing is most of the searches on Google were from Narendra Modi’s home state Gujarat. Google trends also show a region is known for its entrepreneurial spirit, small traders and jewellers that form the power base of the ruling Bharatiya Janta Party.
So, Google Trends and searches clearly show that Gujarat topped the list in searching “How to convert black money into white?”, Haryana is the second and Punjab take the third place which is followed by Jharkhand and Jammu & Kashmir.
