Meta AI Chatbot Now Available In India

In April, the Meta AI chatbot was made available to only a few users in India across the company’s apps for testing. Days later, it was rolled out in more than 12 countries, including the United States, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, Uganda, and Zimbabwe, but not India, owing to the country’s general elections.

The new Meta AI, powered by Meta Llama 3 – the company’s most advanced large language model (LLM) – is now available to all users through the search bar in Meta apps or via the meta.ai website. Currently, Meta AI supports only English and no other local languages.

Meta AI features

“You can use Meta AI on WhatsApp, Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram to get things done, learn, create and connect with the things that matter to you. We first announced Meta AI at last year’s Connect, and since April, we’ve been bringing the latest version of Meta AI built with Llama 3 to people around the world,” the company wrote in a blog post.

Similar to other popular chatbots like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini, Meta AI can also provide answers to queries in real-time and offer suggestions on various topics such as recipes, writing code, workouts, email writing, translation, creating images or GIFs, or text summarization.

For instance, WhatsApp users can interact with Meta AI individually or within a group chat, ask for recommendations for restaurants with great views and vegan options, or even ask for ideas of places to stop on a road trip. Further, you can ask Meta AI on the web to create a multiple-choice test or a mood board of AI-generated images to help decorate your first apartment.

On Facebook, Meta AI will be available within the feed, allowing you to ask for more information about a specific post right from the feed. For example, if someone sees a photo of the northern lights in Iceland, they can ask Meta AI what time of year is best to check out the aurora borealis.

Similarly, Meta AI can generate and share fun images by using the word “imagine” – a text-to-image generation capability—while interacting with the chatbot directly or in a group chat. Users can animate the image or iterate on it with friends by asking Meta AI to change the prompt.

“With our most powerful large language model under the hood, Meta AI is better than ever. We’re excited to share our next-generation assistant with even more people and can’t wait to see how it enhances people’s lives,” the company concluded.
