Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg thinks that Quest 3, the company’s latest virtual reality (VR) headset, is a “better product” than Apple’s recently released mixed reality (MR) headset, Vision Pro.

Meta Quest 3 Is Better Than Vision Pro, Says Mark Zuckerberg

In a video posted on his personal Instagram account profile, which was filmed with Quest 3’s high-resolution passthrough, the Meta CEO has shared his thoughts on the product. He said that before trying out the headset, he thought the Quest 3 would provide better value for most people since it’s seven times less expensive than Apple’s $3,499 headset.

But after trying out Apple’s Vision Pro for the past few days, he thinks his company’s product is far better than Apple Vision Pro “for the vast majority of things.”

“I don’t just think that Quest is the better value. I think Quest is the better product, period. Different companies made different design decisions for the headsets; they have different strengths. But overall, Quest is better for the vast majority of things that people use mixed reality for,” he said.

In his video, Zuckerberg points out that Quest 3 is much more comfortable to use in the long run, as it weighs about 120 grams less than the Vision Pro. It has a lighter design, more flexibility, and a wider field of view with brighter screens, which makes it more comfortable for activities such as exercising and gaming.

Further, the Meta CEO condemned the “trade-offs” Apple had to make to fit a high-resolution display into the wearable device by sacrificing the quality of the device, comfort, and ergonomics. Zuckerberg also pointed out that Quest 3’s motion blur is better than Vision Pro’s, as there are no wires, making it easier to move around.

Just like the Vision Pro, the Quest 3 also supports hand tracking but misses eye-tracking capabilities, which Zuckerberg says will return to future Quest headsets after it was introduced in the Quest Pro.

The Meta CEO also highlights that Quest has a “much deeper” library of immersive content and games than the Vision Pro. He also said how you can watch YouTube or play Xbox on a big screen through Quest, which is not possible via Vision Pro, as there aren’t many apps that take advantage of its hardware.

Since Meta is an old player in the mixed reality/virtual reality market, the Meta Quest 3 definitely has its own advantages, given its lower price tag. On the other hand, it would be unfair to disqualify Apple’s Vision Pro, given its late entry into the AR/VR market. With the Vision Pro still in its nascent stage, it would be too early to write it off.
