Android Co-Founder Andy Rubin Takes Leave From Essential Controversially

I am sure that practically all of you will know perfectly who Andy Rubin is, one of the parents of our beloved Android operating system. Today we want to tell you about his departure from Essential Products, the company he founded and is responsible for the unsuccessful Essential Phone. If a manager leaves a company is not strange; the problem, in this case, would be the reasons that allegedly would have moved him to leave the company. Let’s see all the details below.

Andy Rubin leaves Essential “for personal reasons”

That’s right, the official version of his departure from Essential is that he does it for “personal reasons”. It is a too vague and somewhat generic answer, and that clearly generates doubts, especially for the information that is emerging around this news and that, precisely, could have motivated the march.

To start from the beginning, we must go back to 2014, when Rubin leaves the tech giant Google, after nine years working in the company. Apparently, according to the people of The Verge, Rubin would have decided to leave the tech giant Google very soon after, in the course of an investigation carried out by the human resources department of the Mountain View company, it would have been determined that he maintained an “inappropriate relationship” with a subordinate employee. In addition, in 2013 Andy Rubin would have already changed department for the opening of these investigations.

The information quoted does not detail the extent to which the expression “inappropriate relationship” arrives, so we do not know if it is some kind of doublespeak or, on the contrary, refers only and exclusively to the inappropriateness of the work environment, in which could be conflicts of interest or abuse of position, contravening Google’s policy in this regard.

However, according to the information cited, the woman with whom he had maintained the “inappropriate relationship” and who was precisely who raised a complaint with the human resources department of the tech giant Google to open the investigation, worked in the department of the company that Andy Rubin was in charge at the time.

According to information cited by The Verge (which, incidentally, was born in this article from The Information, which would have been the trigger for the whole thing), the conclusion of that investigation was that “the behaviour of Rubin was improper” of his position as head of the department.

The response from Rubin’s spokesman

As you might expect, from Rubin’s environment they deny any kind of inappropriate relationship while on the tech giant Google. Mick Sitrick, spokesman for Rubin, does not deny that a relationship existed but points out that in any case it was totally consensual for both parties, so he would not have used his position in the company to access this effective relationship.

In addition, it has also pointed out that the tech giant Google has never informed Rubin that he had practiced malpractice or that he had incurred any type of lack of ethics in the workplace, neither when he was with the Mountain View company nor years later.

At the moment we do not know if, with his departure, Rubin could be thinking of some kind of legal procedure to clarify this situation. Nor do we know if, the other parties involved in the matter, could also start a judicial process on this matter.
