Hackers Are Using Game Of Thrones Spoilers To Spread Malware
Well, previously we have seen hackers have got access to HBO networks and leaked the unreleased episodes of TV Shows. Recently, we have seen a hacker who goes by the name “Mr.Smith” has threatened HBO and asked them to be ready for GOT SO7 E06 & E07 leak as soon as possible.
So, HBO is going through the worst time from past few month. Yesterday, a Reddit user who goes by the name TeamKhaleesi claims to have the detailed outline of Game of Thrones Season 7 finale. According to the user, he was able to gather the outline of Finale episode from the hacker Mr.Smith.
Now, reports from cyber security company Proofpoint throws light on cyber criminals who are using the promise of Game of Thrones spoilers to spread malware. The cyber security company observed a “targeted email campaign” that is using leaked GOT episodes to spread malware.
Well, Proofpoint came across an e-mail on August 10th which carries a subject named “Wanna See the Game Of Thrones in advance?”. The email contains a Microsoft word attachment which carries a malware.
If any user downloads the Microsoft word attachment, the malware attempt to install “9002” remote access Trojan. Proofpoint researcher claims that the similar type of attacks has been connected to groups connected with the Chinese Government. Possibly, the attack could be coming from the same players.
Well, the researchers at Proofpoint doesn’t say that HBO’s breaches and these attacks are linked. The hackers behind this phishing campaign are using the already leaked content to install their software on victims computer.
