Nothing Is Safe! Hackers Attacked Nuclear Power Plant
Hackers are often known to create an environment full of panics. Recently we saw many hacking attempts some of them had success while others are failed attempts. We very often read news regarding data breach etc. However, when it comes to nuclear power plant it becomes critical.
The International Atomic Energy Agency Director, Yukiya Amano said Reuters that the nuclear power plant was already attacked by some notorious hackers 2 -3 years ago. While hackers failed to shut down the plant completely. However, hackers managed to disrupt the power plant.
Yukiya Amano didn’t disclose which nuclear power plant had suffered from the hacking attack. Yukiya Amano also throwing some lights onto another attack said another attack was recorded in the Nuclear lab in the University of Toyama in Japan. The lab was supposed to research on tritium. Tritium is used in some nuclear facilities.
Yukiya Amano also described a case in which hackers tried to smuggle a small amount of highly enriched uranium about four years ago, that small amount was enough to build a “Dirty Bomb”
As we all know, severe cyber attacks targeted at nuclear organizations has escalated. And we don’t even know the complete situation. Therefore, this type of hacking activities should be taken seriously.
YukiYa Amano Told Reuters “This is not an imaginary risk”. “This issue of cyber attacks on nuclear-related facilities or activities should be taken very seriously. We never know if we know everything or if it’s the tip of the iceberg.”
Security experts claim that blowing up a nuclear reactor is the near-to-impossible task for any hackers. However, there are always some flaws in every field that can be utilized by hackers to exploit the system. So, what are your thoughts on this type of hacking attempts? Share your thoughts below.
