Epic Fail: Microsoft Presenter Gives Up On Edge, Installs Google Chrome

We all know very well that the Edge browser has been improving a lot since its launch in 2015. It has gained support for fixed tabs, extensions, and syncing with iOS and Android. However, recently, during a live demonstration, a Microsoft employee gives up on Edge as it keeps crashing and installs Google chrome.

Epic Fail: Microsoft Presenter Gives Up On Edge, Installs Google Chrome

The Edge browser has been improving a lot since its launch in 2015. It has gained support for fixed tabs, extensions, and syncing with iOS and Android. Unfortunately, it does not always run the sites right – and even the tech giant Microsoft’s employees suffer from it.

The Next Web noted that a Microsoft employee had to pause a live demonstration of the Azure cloud platform to install Google Chrome because the site did not work with the Edge.

In the presentation, the director Michael Leworthy shows potential customers how to migrate their applications and data to Azure; but in the middle of the session, the site hangs on Edge. He hesitates a bit and decides to install Chrome to finalize the demo; the audience applauds.

Of course, Leworthy disables sending statistics to Google: “we’re not going to help make Chrome better,” he says. After installation, login, and two-factor authentication – which takes about two minutes – the Azure website works as it should.

The video is one of Microsoft’s YouTube channels and was published in September. Check the failure in the demonstration at 37:10:

The Edge has its advantages: it can display Netflix videos in Full-HD (Chrome and Firefox are limited to 720p), and it can rotate tabs inside a virtual machine for greater security.

However, its market share is still small – 4.3% of desktops worldwide, according to StatCounter – so it can be overlooked by website developers including, sometimes, the tech giant Microsoft itself.
