We all know very well that Patents have become a very important source of income for some companies and often cause conflicts between brands. Now, according to the latest reports, recently, the Finnish company Nokia signed multilayer patent deal with the well-known Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei.
Nokia Signs Multi-Year Patent Deal With Huawei
A patent is a term that comes from the Latin word patens, which means “manifesto”. The concept is used to refer to what is visible, perceptible, clear or obvious. The patent consists of a combination of numbers and letters that must be legible.
A patent is, on the other hand, a set of exclusive rights that the State grants to an inventor for a certain period of time for the disclosure and exploitation of his/her invention. If someone wishes to use the patented technology, they must have the authorization of their owner; This information, as well as the date of registration and expiration of the patent, is usually available to any person.
However, nowadays Patents have become a very important source of income for some companies and often cause conflicts between brands.
After the well-known Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi, it is now time for another well-known Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei to negotiate with the Finnish company Nokia on the use of its patents.
Many of the components we see today in technological devices are the result of a strong investment of some brands in the development of knowledge and innovation. To protect the fruit of their investment, and to make some money from it, brands choose to patent their innovations, which are then licensed to other companies for use in their products.
Over the years, several brands have faced patent violations, leading large corporations to oppose various court cases. In the world of smartphones, these litigation are also very recurring between major brands, and we often see the tech giant Apple, the South Korean giant Samsung, among others, in patent wars.
One of the most recent cases goes back to the Finnish company Nokia’s lawsuit against the tech giant Apple, where the American giant had to shell out two billion dollars. To avoid these problems, some manufacturers sign agreements for the use or cross-patents, in order to use the various technologies in their products without further problems.
Huawei signs partnership with Nokia to use its patents
The Finnish company Nokia, while giving up the use of the brand to HMD Global, also has a large number of patents in the world of mobile devices that continue to ensure good revenue and great relevance to existing technologies that are of interest to other brands.
After signing an agreement with the Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi in July to license the use of its patents, it is now time for this agreement to be reached with another well-known Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei.
Although it is known to be an agreement for a few years, the duration, value or patents covered by this agreement has not been disclosed, or if the Finnish company Nokia will also be able to use Huawei patents.
The well-known Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei will now be able to freely use the Finnish company Nokia’s patents in the development of its smartphones without running the risk of infringing the Finnish company Nokia’s patents, as it did the tech giant Apple.
