We all know that RED is a recognized as a manufacturer in the field of professional photography and not in the business of smartphones. However, this company announced that in early 2019 will launch the world’s first Holographic Smartphone and the first prototype Hands-On revealed in MKBHD video.

RED Hydrogen One Holographic Smartphone Revealed In MKBHD Video

According to Brownlee, the modular system of the Red Hydrogen One is relatively similar to Motorola’s Moto Mods concept, which allows to attach different accessories using a magnetic anchor, but technologically “doped” in comparison.

The prototype used to show the operation of these modules is an inert housing, so their true potential remains an unknown. However, the video shows a module with a gigantic optics for what would be a conventional mobile phone, attesting to the intention of Red to offer a professional capture system and at the same time fit in the pocket.

This module is mounted on a rather peculiar chassis, with an anatomical grip (the sides have curves to allow the fingers to fit more firmly), Separate recording button and two speakers in the lower position.

As for the screen, the prototype panel shown by Red remains hidden given the presence of some bugs that have yet to be polished, although according to Brownlee its mysterious technology provides a kind of 3D with an impressive sense of depth.

At first glance, it gives the impression that the term “holographic” is more a commercial label than a literal technical description of the technology used, which has yet to be adequately described by the Network.

The general idea of Red is not to compete with firms such as the tech giants like Samsung, Huawei or Sony, but to offer a very high-performance phone that could be of interest to video and photography professionals, among which the firm has a legion of followers. This is something that will also be reflected in the price.

The Red Hydrogen One will go on sale in early 2019 in two versions: one of aluminum that will cost $1,200 and another special titanium variant will be available for $1,600. These rates do not include taxes or shipping costs, although the people who book one will receive some kind of detail for supporting the product.
