What if I say you all that we have only three years to save our planet Earth from destruction? It may sound a bit like filmy dialogue, but it is true. As, recently, a group of prominent scientists and diplomats point out that the world only has three years before the worst and the worst are irreversible.
We Have Only Three Years To Save The Earth
It would seem visionary that our planet Earth will soon become uninhabitable in the coming years due to climate change, but the truth is that we are already seeing certain symptoms that are warning us of this: the average sea level has increased almost 50% in the last two decades, this year the highest temperatures have been recorded in certain regions and even, on average, the last three years have been the hottest in history.
In an open letter, six prominent scientists and diplomats, including former UN climate chief Christiana Figueres and physicist Stefan Rahmstorf, point out that the world only has three years before the worst and the worst are irreversible. Climate effects that we are already suffering on a smaller scale.
The letter, published on June 28, urges authorities, business people and citizens to cope with the emission of greenhouse gases. They clarify that if greenhouse gas emissions could be reduced by 2020 it is likely that irreversible climate change can be avoided.
The consequences of climate change would be rapid deforestation, floods from rising sea levels, unexpected climatic changes that could destroy agriculture and the disappearance of coasts.
The objectives for reducing the emission of greenhouse gases are as follows:-
- Increase renewable energy to 30% in electricity consumption
- Projects to get rid of fossil fuel energy by 2050
- Ensure that 15% of new cars sold are electric
- Reduce deforestation in half by 2050
- Encourage the financial sector to issue more green bonds
The objectives of this letter are at odds with the priorities of the Trump Administration which has pointed out that climate change is not on its agenda.
So, what do you think about this? Is it an important subject that we should worry about? If so then apart from these points what other measures we should take? Simply share your views and thoughts in the comment section below.
