WhatsApp, the popular Meta-owned instant messaging platform, is reportedly testing a new theme feature that will allow users to choose the main branding color of the app.
WhatsApp May Soon Allows Users To Change App Theme Color
WABetaInfo, a known WhatsApp tipster publication, discovered the new feature in the latest WhatsApp Beta for iOS 24.1.10.70 update, which is available on the TestFlight build 24.1.10 (553351910).
Currently, the green color scheme is the default branding of the instant messaging app. As one can see in the above screenshot, with the introduction of the new theme feature tentatively named “app color,” users will be able to select a new color from a range of five different color options, such as green, blue, white, pink, and purple.
The theme customization feature aims to provide users more control over their app’s appearance and make it visually more appealing while improving accessibility.
“One of the primary advantages of this new feature leads in the freedom it gives users to express themselves through a different color. With a set of 5 available options, users can select a main branding color that resonates with their personality or simply makes the app more visually appealing to them,” WABetaInfo states in its report.
“For those users with visual impairments or specific color preferences based on personal comfort, the ability to change the main branding color can make the app definitely more user-friendly. This inclusive approach aligns with WhatsApp’s commitment to ensuring that its platform is accessible to users of diverse needs and preferences.”
Besides allowing users to change the primary branding color, the report adds that WhatsApp will also add the ability to change the color of the green text bubble in the far future.
Currently, the theme feature to choose the main color of the app is under development and will be available in a future version of WhatsApp for iOS. However, it still needs to be determined if a similar functionality is being worked upon for Android devices.
