We all know very well that one of the new features that came with Windows 10 was Cortana, the new personal assistant from Microsoft that seeks to make it easier for us to search for files, programs and information from the operating system. However, now according to the latest reports, admins can no longer block Cortana in Windows 10.

Admins Can No Longer Block Cortana In Windows 10

One of the new features that came with Windows 10 was Cortana, the new personal assistant from Microsoft that seeks to make it easier for us to search for files, programs and information from the operating system. Although this bar can be very useful, many administrators prefer to disable the search function in the network so that the security and privacy of the operating system can be improved. However, it seems that Windows 10 Spring Creators Update, the imminent update of the operating system, is going to be a problem for these administrators.

System administrators of Windows 10 Pro could, until now, modify the behaviour of the search policies so that they could choose one of the following three options:-

  • Do not allow searches on the web.
  • Do not search the Internet or show Internet results in Search.
  • Do not search the Internet or show Internet results in Search through measured-use connections.

If the rumours are true, soon all users will get Windows 10 Spring Creators Update, the new update of the operating system that will come with a lot of improvements and developments in many of the elements that make up the system. However, it seems that not all news will be for good, but that, either by mistake or on purpose, web administrators will lose even more control over the operating system, unable to disable these options from the search policies of the operating system.

Windows 10 Spring Creators Update will not stop deactivating web searches in Cortana

Although the policies keep appearing, when we try to modify them, they do not work, they do not change the behaviour of Cortana or the operating system search engine, who just sends the requests to the Internet and shows the “web results” in the personal assistant of Microsoft.

At the moment the company has not confirmed if it is a change made on purpose to, for example, increase the monetization of the operating system or if, on the contrary, it is an error that can be corrected with an update. The strange thing is that in the latest compilations of Windows 10 Redstone 5, the next update that will come to the operating system in next October, this option has also stopped working, so the probability that it is a failure decreases a lot, gaining weight the theory that it can be something introduced on purpose by Microsoft.

It is not the first time that Microsoft confronts system administrators causing them to lose control over the operating system, especially since the launch of Windows 10, preventing them, for example, from deactivating the Windows Store from operating system policies.

How can we disable Cortana’s web searches in Windows 10?

Although Microsoft has eliminated the possibility of disabling this in Windows 10 Pro, it seems that in the Enterprise version of the operating system these policies still work, but we must bear in mind that this latest version is much more expensive than the Pro, something unfeasible for small businesses.
