The head of Android and Chrome, Hiroshi Lockheimer, explains to the well-known media portal, of course, The Verge, that Fuchsia OS is “a new approach to what an operating system could be, as the idea is to advance state of the art in terms of operating systems, and the things we learned from Fuchsia, we can incorporate into other products as well.”
It seems that the focus of the new operating system is not to replace Android. Still, he says that “People are very excited to say that ‘this is the new Android’ or ‘this is the new Chrome OS, but this is not the idea of Fuchsia, as everyone assumes that Fuchsia is made for smartphones, but if it could be used for other things?”
But what things? In a chat during Google I/O, Lockheimer hinted that “several types of devices require operating systems, not just smartphones, and computers. In the world of the Internet of Things, a growing number of devices require OS, new runtimes, and so on”.
“I think there is plenty of room for multiple operating systems with different strengths and specializations,” he adds. “Fuchsia is one of them, so stay tuned.”
Fuchsia OS may replace Android and could be released in 2021
Perhaps it was tough to believe that the tech giant Google would be thinking of keeping only one operating system, as the company has been launching competing products for years; if we look, then we can find that the tech giant Google already has six chat apps, and they are Hangouts, Chat, Meet, Duo, Messaging and Voice.
However, the tech giant Google has been doing a cleanup on these duplicates, as Inbox is over, Allo was closed, while the Hangouts “classic” may not work in 2020, Youtube Music has been receiving features from Google Play Music.
Maybe Fuchsia OS might get into that same strategy, as according to the well-known media platform, Bloomberg, it should b , do1 simply replace Android in smartphones over five years. In addition, the system’s source code indicates that it will be able to run Android apps as well.
