However, according to the latest reports, the tech giant Google will soon eliminate one of the most valuable functions of ADB to make a backup of our smartphone without rooting our Android smartphone or device.

As we all know very well, the Android Debug Bridge, better known as ADB, is a command-based tool that allows us to communicate with Android devices simply by connecting it to a computer or PC. Hence, we should thank it, as with the help of this, we can perform a large number of actions. Basically, this feature is designed for developers and advanced users.
Most-used abilities and commands that ADB offers:-
- Restart the device in bootloader mode (ADB reboot-bootloader)
- Restart the device in recovery mode (ADB reboot recovery)
- Copy files from PC to device (ADB push)
- Copy files from device to PC (ADB pull)
- Install apps in APK format (ADB install)
- Flashing ROMs (ADB sideload)
- Create a full backup of the device (ADB backup)
- Restore a device backup (and restore)
- Unlock the bootloader (fastboot OEM unlock)
- Flashing a recovery (fastboot flash recovery)
Among all these commands, you are likely to have used most to unlock the bootloader and flash a custom recovery so that you can install any ROM you want or root your Android device without changing the ROM.
Moreover, this list finds the commands for backup and restore, which are very useful for backing up our mobile devices. This feature is essential in case we have to send the phone to a repair center while it is under warranty or if we do not want to risk losing the original ROM with all our information before we start flashing things to the mobile.
Unfortunately, this function seems to have the days counted in Android, as according to the latest reports, a new commit has appeared in AOSP, entitled “Add deprecation warning to ADB backup/restore” it means that the tech giant Google would be thinking about eliminating this feature soon.
This commitment shows us the company’s intentions and warns us that the elimination of this function will be preceded by an alert that will warn users that they do not have much time left to live.
Hence, those who want to make backup copies of their applications will have to opt for other alternatives, w, doooting the Android device. Unfortunately, to root the phone, you must first unlock the bootloader, which deletes the data of all the applications we have installed.
