Intel Unveils New Family Of AI Chips To Take On Nvidia’s GPUs
Several tech giants like Facebook, Google and Apple are already approaching towards machine learning. Intel recently planned to join the AI race and level with Nvidia. Recently, Intel has unveiled its Nervana Neural Processor family at the WSJDLive global technology conference.
Well, the new process will be ready for shipping by the end of 2017. Let me tell you, the Nervana Neural Processor is not for the average PC but it is something which is dedicated to Artificial intelligence.
Intel CEO Brian Krzaniuch said “We are thrilled to have Facebook in close collaboration sharing its technical insights as we bring this new generation of AI hardware to market,”
According to Intel, the Nervana Neural Processor uses high-speed, high-capacity and high-bandwidth memory which can give the maximum level of on-chip storage and a hyper-fast access to memory. Not only these, the hardware of Nervana Neural Processors also features separate pipelines for data management and computation.
Apart from all of these, Nervana processors also include bi-directional high-bandwidth links which enable the interconnection between ASICs. Intel had eliminated the cache architecture and will manage all the on-chip memory through software.
Naveen Rao, the CEO and Co-founder of Nervana, which was acquired by Intel in August 2016 said “We have multiple generations of Intel Nervana NNP products in the pipeline that will deliver higher performance and enable new levels of scalability for AI models”
“We are gonna look back in 10 years and really see this was a pivotal point in the history of computation that processors change to focus on neural networks”
