Apple is reportedly planning to increase the display size of its upcoming iPhone 16 series by adopting a new ultra-thin bezel technology.

iPhone 16 Series To Likely Feature Extremely Thin Bezels

A recent report from Sisajournal (via @Tech_Reve) suggests that the Cupertino giant is planning to introduce a new Border Reduction Structure (BRS) technology in all four iPhone 16 models, i.e., iPhone 16 standard, Plus, Pro, and Pro Max, due to be released in the second half of the year.

The BRS technology will allow Apple to shrink the bezels of the iPhone 16 line-up, giving the smartphones a virtually borderless display. For those unaware, BRS technology is a borderless display technology that reduces the bezel area at the bottom of the display by rolling the copper wires at the bottom upwards into a more compact package.

Interestingly, Samsung Display, LG Display, and BOE, who are key providers of screens for iPhone 16 models, are said to have secured the BRS technology.

The company is said to have tried to apply the BRS technology to reduce the bottom bezel in iPhones before, but their attempts were cut short due to problems in the heat generation area. However, with recent improvements in heat dissipation technology, Apple has again adopted the BRS technology.

Last year, Apple successfully reduced the bezel width of the iPhone 15 Pro model using low-injection pressure over-molding, or LIPO, to shrink the display border size to an impressive 1.5 millimeters, compared to about 2.2 millimeters on iPhone 14 models. This shows the company’s commitment to continuous innovation and design changes.

While the exact screen size of the iPhone 16 models after using the BRS technology remains unknown, previous leaks and news suggest that iPhone 16 Pro models will come with larger displays than the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max handsets.

The iPhone 16 Pro model is expected to have a 6.27-inch display (159.31 mm), while the ‌‌iPhone 16 Pro‌‌ Max will feature a 6.85-inch (174.06 mm) screen. This means the dimensions of these iPhones’ bodies will also increase, such as the height and width of the devices, allowing for more internal space.

Earlier leaks suggest that the iPhone 16 Pro models will likely feature a new dedicated Capture Button for photo or video captures. In contrast, the iPhone 16 models are expected to come with a vertical camera layout.
