OpenAI recently introduced GPT-Live, its next-generation voice model for natural human-AI interaction. It now powers ChatGPT’s voice. Basically, the goal of GPT-Live is to make conversations with ChatGPT feel much closer to speaking with another person.
Previously, the ChatGPT app offered two different voice modes – Standard and Advanced. The standard one basically served as a speech-to-text system that converted your voice into text and then responded; the Advanced Voice Mode was turn-based – it waited for you to stop speaking before it responded.
What is GPT-Live?
The new GPT-Live is very different. It can listen and speak simultaneously. It can detect when you’re speaking, wait naturally, interrupt only when needed, and keep the conversation flowing.
It’s built on a full-duplex architecture, allowing it to process speech while generating responses simultaneously. This means the AI can now react naturally during conversations and can respond without any delays.
The sole purpose of GPT-Live is to deliver a voice experience that feels closer to talking with another person.
How to Use GPT-Live?
Using GPT-Live is very easy. You will have to update the ChatGPT app from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.
- Update the ChatGPT app for Android or iOS.
- Launch ChatGPT and tap the Voice icon to start a voice chat.
- Start speaking to it naturally.
GPT-Live supports real-time conversations, which means you won’t have to wait for the AI to respond. What’s interesting is that GPT-Live can be interrupted midway, and it will recognize the interruption and will adjust its response.
ChatGPT Go, Plus, and Pro subscribers will receive a full GPT-Live 1 experience. Whereas, the free users will get GPT-Live 1 mini. GPT-Live-1 Mini is a lighter version that still delivers better, faster, and more natural voice conversations than the existing advanced voice mode.
GPT-Live isn’t available?
OpenAI just launched GPT-Live, and it’s rolling out to ChatGPT users globally across iOS, Android, and ChatGPT.com.
