“I condemn Julian Assange’s treatment that leads to my new role, but I appreciate the responsibility of ensuring the continuation of the important work based on the ideals of WikiLeaks,” Hrafnsson said in the statement.
Last May, Ecuador decided to withdraw the additional security of its embassy in London after the British newspaper The Guardian published that the Ecuadorian government had allocated 4.2 million euros in an “espionage operation” to “protect” the well-known Australian computer scientist, of course, Julian Assange.
