NSA Hacking Tools Leaked Online! Shadow Brokers Reveal Password For Encrypted Folder

In August 2016,  the hacking group shadow brokers demanded 1 million in an auction to leak those tools and files that they have hacked into “Equation Group”. However, nobody had shown interest in buying those hacked tools. The hacking group shadow brokers have now decided to give away those hacking tools and files for free.

If we look back at August 2016, The hackers group named “The Shadow Brokers” claims to have penetrated an NSA-backed hacking operation. The group of hackers claimed that they have hacked into “Equation Group” which is a cyber attack group widely believed to be associated with NSA.

The hackers group demanded 1 million in an auction to leak those hacking tools and files. However, early this year Shadow brokers announced their retirement because nobody had shown interest in buying those hacked tools.

The Shadow Brokers have now decided to give away those hacking tools and files for free. In a lengthy blog post on Medium, the group had shared the password to unlock the encrypted folder of files that was sold in the auction.

The Shadow Brokers claimed giving away those hacking tools for free is a protest against the United States President Donald Trump. The Shadow Brokers ask:

“Respectfully, what the fuck are you doing? TheShadowBrokers voted for you. TheShadowBrokers supports you. TheShadowBrokers is losing faith in you. Mr. Trump helping the shadow brokers, helping you. Is appearing you are abandoning “your base”, “the movement”, and the peoples who getting you elected.”

Soon after the reveal, security researchers have started looking into the files. The tools mainly focus on Linux operating systems

Edward Snowden also joined the conversation on twitter he said that the files revealed by The Shadow Brokers fall short of the fully hacking catalog of NSA. He also said that NSA should identify where and how the hacking tools leaked.
