As explained in the journal, the attackers simply use a file in .PNG format to attack a smartphone or tablet. However, the ‘design’ of this type of files has not been specified in .png format, simply to avoid the use of the security failure, but with them, arbitrary code with privileges on the system can be executed and it affects Android 7.0, Android 9.0 and all versions between these two versions of OS.

It does not take more than a .PNG (image) file to break the security of an Android device, and it also does not matter if it is a smartphone or a tablet. As the devices that receive direct updates from the Mountain View company, of course, the tech giant Google which is the Pixel and Android One, must have already received this security patch that solves this important security flaw regarding the images in .png format.
