Well, India is also among the affected countries from the WannaCry ransomware attack. Kerala and Andhra Pradesh have been affected slightly in India. Security researchers are still finding the way to stop this attack.
According to the reports from financialexpress, RBI (Reserve Bank of India) has shut down some ATMs all over the country as a preventive measure against the massive WanaCrypt0r ransomware and had also asked all banks to put in place a software update at ATMs.
Times of India (ToI) reported quoting an unnamed official with a public sector bank “RBI has asked banks to update specific Windows patches on ATMs urgently and not to operate ATM machines unless updates are in place,”
Well, the reports also claim that ATM machines are highly vulnerable to such attacks because most of them run an old version of Windows operating system thus making a software update a significant activity.
The ATM operators have claimed that there was no threat to customer information and that could lead to theft of money from ATMs. They also said that the primary purpose of this ransomware was to lock important information in networks to stop customer access to them.
