Samsung Just Unveiled The World’s Largest SSD

In 2015, the South Korean giant Samsung announced the world’s largest SSD, with nearly 16 TB of capacity. Now, it is breaking its own record with a storage unit of 30.72 TB. Yes, it is really hefty and it is enough to record about 500 days of non-stop video.

But, the most interesting question is that how did the South Korean giant Samsung done it? According to the reports, the South Korean giant Samsung has used its 3D Vertical NAND (V-NAND) technology, which simply allows you to store more data and also brings greater performance.

However, the largest SSD of the South Korean giant Samsung is known as PM1643 and it consists of 32 sticks of 1TB NAND, each containing sixteen layers of 64 GB V-NAND chips.

This is the world’s largest capacity 2.5-inch storage unit. Seagate made an SSD over 60 TB a few years ago, but in the 3.5-inch format; and that was also a “demonstration technology”, hence, Seagate did not put up it for sale.

The South Korean giant Samsung’s SSD achieves up to 2,100 MB/s in sequential read speed and 1,700 MB/s of write speed on the Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) protocol. That’s triple what we see in consumer-grade SSDs.

The South Korean giant Samsung offers a five-year warranty for a complete recording on the unit per day. However, it still does not reveal the price or availability for PM1643, the world’s largest SSD. Of course, it is business-oriented and should cost dearly.
