Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC (SIE) announced on Tuesday that it will release its next version of the PlayStation games console, the PlayStation 5 Pro, on November 7, 2024.

The PlayStation 5 Pro (PS5 Pro) is an upgraded version of its flagship games console. It aims to provide players with richer gameplay experiences through super-sharp image clarity, high frame rate gameplay, AI capabilities, and advanced ray tracing.

The PS5 Pro takes advantage of the console’s more powerful hardware and system architecture and delivers the most impressive visuals and performance to date on a PlayStation console. It includes the following three new features:

Upgraded GPU: The PS5 Pro GPU now has 67 percent more compute units than the existing PS5 console and 28 percent faster memory. This helps the console achieve 45 percent faster rendering for gameplay, making the experience smoother than the standard PS5.

Advanced Ray Tracing: Advanced ray tracing provides more dynamic reflection and refraction of light, allowing the rays to be cast at double the speed of the current PS5 console, sometimes even triple.

AI-Driven Upscaling with PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution: Sony introduces PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), an AI-driven and machine learning-based upscaling technology that adds an extraordinary amount of detail to provide super-sharp image clarity and frame rates.

According to Sony, many game creators have embraced the latest technology from PS5 Pro and are building free software updates to take advantage of the PS5 Pro’s features. Some of the expected “PS5 Pro Enhanced” game titles from PlayStation Studios and SIE’s partners include Alan Wake 2, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, Demon’s Souls, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Gran Turismo 7, Hogwarts Legacy, Horizon Forbidden West, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, The Crew Motorfest, The First Descendant, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, and more.

“Other enhancements include PS5 Pro Game Boost, which can apply to more than 8,500 backward compatible PS4 games playable on PS5 Pro. This feature may stabilize or improve the performance of supported PS4 and PS5 games. Enhanced Image Quality for PS4 games is also available to improve the resolution on select PS4 games” Sony wrote in a blog post.

The PS5 Pro console comes with a 2TB SSD compared to 1TB on the standard model, a DualSense wireless controller, Wi-Fi 7, and a copy of “Astro’s Playroom” pre-installed.

Further, the PS5 Pro is the same height as the current slim PS5 model and the width of the disc-less model. Users can add an Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive, which is sold separately. This is the same drive available for the PS5 console.

In addition, the PS5 Pro is compatible with existing PS5 accessories, including PlayStation VR2, PlayStation Portal remote player, DualSense Edge wireless controller, Access controller, Pulse Elite wireless headset, and Pulse Explore wireless earbuds.

Pre-orders for the PS5 Pro will begin on September 26, 2024 PS5, and will be available at participating retailers and directly from PlayStation at direct.playstation.com.

The PS5 Pro console will be available for purchase on November 7, 2024, for 699.99 USD, £699.99 GBP, €799.99 EUR, and ¥119,980 JPY (including tax).
