OMG! Stephen Hawking Says AI Can ‘Outperform Humans

Artificial Intelligence is one of the technologies of the future. Several companies have invested in this segment, creating tools and hardware to make this technology more profound and capable, and consequently end up being more useful to users.

As recently we talked about that how the tech giant Microsoft bet heavily on Artificial Intelligence and now it has been known that the AI processor it was developing for the HoloLens will be deployed on other equipment as well, including third-party equipment.

However, now, recently, during an interview, Stephen Hawking, an English theoretical physicist, cosmologist, author, and Director of Research at the Centre for Theoretical Cosmology within the University of Cambridge, warned that artificial intelligence will soon reach a level where it will be a “new way of life that will overtake humans.”

The rapid development of artificial intelligence could pose a danger to humanity, reiterated the famous British physicist, quoted by Cambridge News.

“I fear that artificial intelligence could replace humans completely. If people design computer viruses, someone will design an AI (artificial intelligence) that will improve and replicate itself. This will be a new way of life that will surpass humans,” he predicted in an interview with Wired magazine, cited by several sources.

According to the Stephen Hawking, when looking for more efficiency the machines would want to get rid of people. But even if this does not happen, he believes that humanity will run the risk of ruining itself.

“We have crossed the point of no return, the land is becoming too small for us, the population is growing at an alarming rate and we are in danger of destroying ourselves,” he warned.

In this context, the scientist sees as a possible solution to develop a new space program “with a view to colonizing eventually suitable planets for humans to live”.
