With the exhibition of the Xiaomi Mi5C, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi debuted its first processor (SoC), something that had been expected for a long time. After presenting a processor for the mid-range devices, Xiaomi is now preparing to launch a new model for the high-end, Surge S2.

With the launch of the first Xiaomi processor, a long-standing rumor cycle was closed. The community early on predicted that this was the path that the Chinese brand should take, following in the footsteps of other brands such as Huawei.

Undoubtedly, Xiaomi presented this year finally the new Pinecone Surge, with the first version to be called S1 and to accompany the launch of Mi5C. Although everyone expected the initial bet on a high-end processor, this did not happen, the Surge S1 being a mid-range model. But Xiaomi does not seem to waste time and is preparing to introduce a new high-end processor, the Surge S2.

Still little is known about this new processor and what it will offer. However, it is expected to go into production in the third quarter of this year, to be released to the market in the last quarter of the year. The construction will be commissioned by TSMC in a 16nm manufacturing process and should have eight cores.

For its new processor, Xiaomi should not keep up with the 10nm technology used in the development of other branded processors such as Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 and Exynos 8895 due to the allegedly low productivity of this process.

With the beginning of the development of the own processors, Xiaomi should start gradually to bet on the silver of the house. This chosen strategy follows the path made by Huawei with its Kirin.
