We all know that China is already one of the most technologically advanced countries in the world and now the country wants to build and launch world’s first ‘Exascale Supercomputer’.

China To Launch World’s First ‘Exascale Supercomputer’

China has announced that later this year, it will build the world’s first prototype of exascale supercomputer that can perform a trillion calculations per second.

Currently, one of the parameters to measure whether a country is at the forefront of technology is its role in the supercomputing. The United States and China are dominating this area, although Japan also wants to enter the game and threatens to launch the most powerful supercomputer in the world in 2019.

However, China is not going to make it easy. The fastest supercomputer in the world today is the Sunway TaihuLight, which was presented by the Asian state last June. It has a maximum performance of 124.5 petaflops (it was the first machine to exceed 100 petaflops), and is equipped with a processor of 10.65 million cores and a RAM of 1.3 petabytes.

China does not want to lose its supremacy and, according to the state news agency Xinhua, is now planning the development of a prototype exascale supercomputer which will be able to perform a trillion calculations per second, really this performance and speed will be truly amazing. According to Zhang Ting, one of the engineers at China’s supercomputer center, “it will be 200 times faster than China’s first petaflop computer, the Tianhe-1, recognized as the world’s fastest in 2010.”

In addition, Ting noted that the calculation speed is not everything and as this new generation of exascale supercomputer will also highlight the efficiency of data transmission as well.

According to Ting, the initial prototype will be ready by the end of 2017, although it will be necessary to wait a few years to enjoy the full functionality. Specifically, the engineer calculates that the supercomputer’s computer system exascale and its applications will be finished by the year 2020.
