Well, Artificial Intelligence and ROBOTS are the tech breakthrough that is on the rise. Bill gates in one his interview with Quartz’s editor-in-chief Kevin Delaney said that, if a robot comes in to do the same thing, you’d think that we’d tax the robot at a similar level.
Bill Gates: Robots That Steal Human Jobs Should Pay Taxes
Well, previous year we saw some never-ending stream of bad news regarding technology that clearly shows that 2016 was an average year. However, 2016 have some significant tech breakthrough that changed how we think, like, work and play.
Well, Artificial Intelligence and ROBOTS are the tech breakthrough that is on the rise. Previously, we have seen how Google’s AI defeats human experts in Lip reading. Therefore, Artificial intelligence and robotics are advancing. Some critics claim that rapid advances in Artificial Intelligence and robotics can simply lead to widespread job losses.
That means if robots are going to take over human jobs, that means fewer people will be working, which in turn means fewer people will be paying taxes. Well, we must admit that taxes fund things like schools and roads and fire departments which are important.
Well, for all these rising problems, Bill Gates has an idea, here’s what he said in an interview with Quartz’s editor-in-chief Kevin Delaney “Right now, the human worker who does, say, $50,000 worth of work in a factory, that income is taxed, and you get income tax, Social Security tax, all those things”
“If a robot comes in to do the same thing, you’d think that we’d tax the robot at a similar level.”
Bill Gates mentioned that once automation takes over activities that human now used to do, then the human will get time to “do a better job of reaching out to the elderly, having smaller class sizes, helping kids with special needs.”
Bill Gates further said “But you can’t just give up that income tax because that’s part of how you’ve been funding that level of human workers”
Bill Gates believes that governments should tax companies use of robots. Saving companies should give the tax money to pay and support human workers. According to reports from McKinsey report, almost 50% of jobs done by human nowadays are vulnerable to be replaced by robots in the coming future.
Bill Gates said “People should be figuring it out, It is really bad if people overall have more fear about what innovation is going to do than they have enthusiasm. That means they won’t shape it for the positive things it can do.”
