Google Just Removed “System Update” Malware Living On Play Store For 3 Years

Google Play store is gigantic. It had almost every kind of apps for Android devices. Considering the enormous size of Play Store, one can undoubtedly agree that Play store may be the home for some malicious apps.

You will be shocked to know that there is a malware which is named “System Update” managed to exist on the Google Play Store for more than three years now. The “System Update” app was last updated in the year 2014.

Recently, Google removed “System Update” app from the Google Play Store because it was actually a spyware that had survived for more than three years. Users will be shocked to know that the spyware is been downloaded over millions of times in the past few years.

The “System Update” app was discovered by security firm Zscaler. According to Zscaler, the app was launched in 2014 and it was a spyware that sends data about device location to the creator. The app can also look at incoming SMS.

The security firm says that if any user installed and tried to use the app, the app shows a notification “Unfortunately, Update Service has stopped”. The app continues to run in the background. The firm alerted the fake app to Google and the company had removed it.
