Google is reportedly planning to integrate its AI-powered Gemini chatbot into WhatsApp Messages and notifications on Android devices to make it an integral part of daily life.
According to a new report by Android Authority, toggles of three new extensions were found for Gemini, specifically for WhatsApp, Messages, and Android system notifications during an APK teardown of the latest Google App beta version 15.34.32.29.arm64.
The description for the ‘WhatsApp’ extension in Gemini reads, “Send messages or make calls through the WhatsApp app on Android.” This means you can send/read messages or make WhatsApp voice calls to your contacts on the app using a Gemini-linked voice command and hands-free.
Further, the description of the ‘Message’ extension reads, “Send or read messages through the Google Messages app.” This implies that Gemini can read incoming texts aloud and reply to messages via Google’s Messages app on Android while you are busy.
Lastly, the ‘Android system notifications’ extension enables you to “Send or read Android system notifications.” This could allow you to request Gemini to summarize messages or notifications in the same way it summarises YouTube videos. For instance, you can ask Gemini to provide a quick summary of a lengthy message or a series of notifications received, saving you time and effort to read each one and reply to any urgent messages.
Currently, all these messaging extensions are still in the development stage, and it is unclear when they will be officially released. Keep watching this space for more updates, as this is a developing story!
