With the fame that virtual currencies have had in recent months, many have taken advantage to mine these currencies through scripts on websites and extensions in browsers, hence, now to stop these abusive use of extensions for secretly mining cryptocurrencies, recently, the tech giant Google has decided to remove all the Chrome extensions that are secretly mining cryptocurrencies.

Google To Remove Chrome Extensions Secretly Mining Cryptocurrency

With the prominence that virtual currencies have had in recent months, many have taken advantage to mine these currencies through scripts on websites and extensions in browsers such as the tech giant Google’s most used and popular web browser, of course, I am talking about the Chrome.

Users are not always aware or agree with these situations, hence, the tech giant Google has now decided to remove all extensions that use cryptocurrency miners from the Chrome extension store.

Turning to extensions and other mechanisms for mining virtual coins in the browser has become very lucrative for those who choose this path. In a covert way and without the users’ knowledge, they are managing to mine and accumulate a good amount of virtual money.

The tech giant Google allowed the presence of Chrome extensions that did this mining, only requiring users to be informed of this situation. The truth is that, according to the tech giant Google, 90% of the extensions that contained these scripts did not comply with these rules and were rejected or removed.

To stop these situations, the tech giant Google has now decided to change its rules and from now on it will not accept and tacitly reject all extensions submitted in the Chrome Web Store that have virtual coin mining scripts.

All extensions in the store that have this type of scripts will be maintained, but in June they will be removed from public lists and later removed. Extensions associated with blockchain and that are not for mining will be retained.

In addition to not having the consent of the users, these extensions are consuming in an abusive way resources of the equipment where they are being executed, thus no longer being available for the use they should have.

This is a measure of the tech giant Google that wants to keep its browser free of abusive extensions and that are counterproductive to users. After the sites that mining anonymously, this is a guarantee of protection for users that the tech giant Google tries to give its well-known and most used web browser, Chrome.
