Google X Is Launching New Cybersecurity Company Called Chronicle

As of now, there’s a new company under the Alphabet banner known as Google X. Google X works on driverless cars, drones and Project Loon. However, Google X now announced a new spinoff focusing entirely on cybersecurity, dubbed Chronicle.

Chronicle is basically a new business unit that will sell cybersecurity software to Fortune 500 companies. It looks like Google now wants to become a big player in corporate computing.

The new unit will focus on detecting threats by analyzing and storing security related information within large enterprises. Chronicle will use Google’s infrastructure to detect threats faster and at a broader scan than the existing system.

Founder Stephen Gillett said in a Medium post “We think we’ll be able to help organizations see their full security picture in much higher fidelity than they currently can”

Chronicle also houses VirusTotal which is a popular malware-reporting and virus-scanning tool that receives almost 1 million submissions a day. VirusTotal was acquired by Google in 2012 which is now nested under Chronicle.
