We have sad news for GTA fans! If reports are to be believed, the release date of one of the most highly anticipated video games, Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6), has reportedly been pushed to 2026.
A new report from The Gamer, citing a staff writer at GTA Base, claims that Rockstar Games, the developer of the GTA series, has internally delayed GTA 6 to a mid-2026 release window, with a PC version to follow in 2027.
According to GTA Base’s staff writer Liam (@billsyliamgta on X), GTA 6 “has been internally delayed by Rockstar Games and they’re already decided on the early to mid 2026 release window.”
He further says, “PC is planned for around 12 – 18 months after the console launch.” He added that the information came from “multiple devs across two studios.”
It is important to note that Liam has no substantial evidence to support his claim of delay in the release of GTA 6, as he got this information from several sources. Hence, this news should be taken with a pinch of salt until Rockstar Games officially makes an announcement.
Meanwhile, Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar Games’ parent company, announced during its recent quarterly earnings call in August this year that it is still on track to release GTA 6 as planned in Fall 2025.
For those unaware, Rockstar Games released the first trailer of GTA 6 on its official YouTube channel in December 2023, which became the third-most viral video with 93 million views within 24 hours and the most-liked game trailer with 8.9 million views.
When the trailer begins, one can see Lucia, the franchise’s first playable female protagonist, in a prison. Once out of jail, she commits crimes with her male accomplice in Bonnie and Clyde-style in Vice City. GTA 6 is expected to head to the state of Leonida, home to the neon-soaked streets of Vice City and beyond with sunsets, beaches, and yachts.
GTA 6 will be released on the PlayStation 5 (PS5), Xbox Series S|X, and PC.
