Well, have you ever wondered what would happen if you didn’t put your electronic devices like laptops, smartphones on Airplane mode when you are up in the air? There are many people who feel it’s totally worthless to switch on the airplane mode during flight.

Here’s Why You Have to Switch Your Phone to Airplane Mode On a Flight

If you have ever traveled on airplanes, then you will know that there are a lot of rules that needed to follow. Some of the rules are personal, and up for review like don’t leave your seat while the person behind you is having lunch/dinner.

Well, we also get to hear some of the formal policy, announced over the intercom before a flight’s takeoff. Like buckle your seat belts, move the seats forward and then we hear the phrase “Turn off your electronic devices”

Well, have you ever wondered what would happen if you didn’t put your electronic devices like laptops, smartphones on Airplane mode when you are up in the air? Well, there are many people who feel it’s totally worthless to switch on the airplane mode during flight.

So, what is the truth? Let me describe you. First of all, let me tell you there is no clear evidence that the signals from electronic devices have ever caused a plane to crash. The main reason behind this step is to make sure users follow all the safety rules because when we are more than 10,000 feet above the ground, our electronic devices transmit signals that bounce off various towers and sends out a powerful signal.

Powerful signals are something that might congest the networks on the ground. However, as we already mentioned there is no evidence that proofs that electronic devices can cause a plane to crash.

In a blog post for Airline updates, a pilot described that “Your phone will probably annoy a few pilots and air traffic controllers. But, most likely, not badly enough for them to take action against you if that’s what you want to know.”

“You may have heard that unpleasant noise from an audio system that occasionally happens when a mobile phone is nearby. I actually heard such noise on the radio while flying. It is not safety critical, but is annoying for sure”

The pilot also mentioned that if 50 people on the airplane doesn’t turn on their airplane mode then it would cause lots of “radio pollution”

An engineer who goes by the name “Coenraad Loubser” on Quora said “To compound matters, the weaker the signal your cell phone picks up from the tower, the more it amplifies its signal to try and get a response (and the more battery it uses). Planes with onboard cell coverage, allow your phone to communicate using very low power, or Wi-Fi. When you put your phone in Airplane mode, the GSM/3G Radio inside your phone is completely disabled and you can still use the phone for other functions.”

So, these are the possible reasons why turning on the Airplane mode in the flight is considered necessary. Therefore, make sure to follow these rules. So, what do you think about this? Share your views in the comment box below.
