Microsoft Just Unveiled Its New Adaptive Controller

Although popular worldwide, video games often have barriers for many people with disabilities. Most players do not realize it, but an interface that requires two hands and a certain speed to control multiple buttons is not that simple.

To make more people fit to play, the tech giant Microsoft has created the Xbox Adaptive Controller, an adapted peripheral with support for Xbox One and Windows 10. It is designed to pair with other devices aimed at people with disabilities.

The tech giant Microsoft’s goal is for control to serve as the basis for meeting the needs of different player profiles. It has 19 3.5 mm inputs, which serve to connect devices such as pedals and buttons of other sizes, for example.

The Xbox Adaptive Controller also has two USB ports that give you the option of replacing the analogue buttons with another device.

It is recognized as a standard control of Windows 10 and Xbox One. Therefore, it is compatible with any game available for these platforms.

As Polygon recalls, console makers and game makers have made some strides in recent years in accessibility. However, most of this work used to be left to third-party accessories.

The announcement by the tech giant Microsoft is possibly the strongest because of the size of the company and may lead to the development of such solutions by other companies.

The Xbox Adaptive Controller is expected to hit US stores later this year for $99.
