An investigation was started in mid-2016 by the Finnish Consumer authority due to forced upgrades on Windows computer. Now, it looks like Microsoft agreed to no longer install applications without authority on computers in Finland.
Microsoft Promises It’ll Never Force Windows Installs Ever Again
Well, we all know that the tech giant Microsoft rolled out Windows 10 in July 2015 and during the initial stage, the company offered the operating system free of charge to Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users who performed the upgrade before July 2016.
At that time, Microsoft launched an app called “Get Windows 10” the app was shipped via Windows Update to all systems eligible for the upgrade. The app was meant to begin the upgrade process, but, it automatically downloaded the necessary files in the background and forced users to start the installation.
Well, to speed up the process, Microsoft also changed the behavior of the X button in the top right corner from close to OK, which eventually triggers the Windows 10 upgrade process when users actually wanted to cancel it.
Regarding this issue, an investigation was started in mid-2016 by the Finnish Consumer authority due to forced upgrades on Windows computer. Now, it looks like Microsoft agreed to no longer install applications without authority on computers in Finland.
Not only these, the software giant will now maintain the original behavior of options that are displayed on the screen. According to the reports from Xinhua, Microsoft will provide all the necessary information to users whenever an installation or upgrade is required.
The consumer watchdog was quoted as saying “The entrepreneur cannot presume that the consumer gets information about a product on his own or would seek information via complex internet links”
Well, Microsoft hasn’t yet commented anything on its agreement with the Finnish consumer organizations, however, the company has recently promised to play nice in the future.
