Vivo has just announced a device that has under-display finger print sensor in it, beating Apple to its game and becoming the first company to launch such innovation on a smartphone. The Chinese smartphone maker Vivo has taken the lead over Apple and Samsung by showcasing the first ever smartphone prototype with “Under Display” Fingerprint Scanning Solution based upon the technology provided by Qualcomm.

Vivo Beats Apple To An Under-Display Fingerprint Scanner Test

Vivo has just announced a device that has under-display finger print sensor in it, beating Apple to its game and becoming the first company to launch such innovation on a smartphone. Before now, Fingerprint sensor under glass might be easy to do but under the thickness of the glass plus display, is something nobody is yet to master in a production scale.

The Chinese smartphone maker Vivo has taken the lead over Apple and Samsung by showcasing the first ever smartphone prototype with “Under Display” Fingerprint Scanning Solution based upon the technology provided by Qualcomm.

At the MWC Shanghai 2017, Vivo has unveiled three new features they’re working on for their upcoming smartphones.

These include Under Display Fingerprint scanner, Digital Signal Processing Photography Solution targeted for backlighting and night scene photography, and a Hi-Fi audio solution with a customized DAC decoding chip.

The new generation sensor installed on Vivo prototype smartphone was been tested today by Engadget’s Richard Lai who got to test it out at a trade show in Shanghai. The sensor is the latest ultrasonic fingerprint sensor from Qualcomm that now works through OLED display stacks up to 1.2mm thick, up to 0.8mm of a cover glass, or up to 0.65mm of aluminum.

Since the Vivo Under Display doesn’t require a physical button for the fingerprint sensor, it allows a true full-screen display and an integrated unibody and mechanical waterproofing design.

Vivo has not announced an actual product that features this new sensor technology yet and all the devices shown at the MWC Shanghai were prototypes using a Xplay6 smartphone as a base. The company also didn’t give any timeline for implementing these new features in their phones, but we can expect to see commercial products within a year or so.
