If you remember in late 2016, Facebook had rolled out the colored status feature on its Android app that allowed users to update their status with a colorful background, font, and emoji. Recently, the same feature is been spotted on WhatsApp as well.
Well, the new feature is been spotted on the beta version of WhatsApp app, it can be expected to arrive for all users soon. The feature was first reported by Android Police and it shows the feature was available in WhatsApp beta version 2.17.291. The report also adds that it might be the latest version of the WhatsApp beta, it is possible many users might not see this feature.
It looks like it’s a server side switch from WhatsApp’s end, so only a few users are seeing this feature in the beta version. Users will get to see a floating pen icon in the Status tab which is located at the bottom of the screen. Tapping on the pen icon brings an option to type a status, choose the background color, font, and emoji.
