This Whatsapp payment feature was rolled out to limited users six weeks ago. For this move, the company has collaborated with Novi, Meta’s digital wallet app. The payment will be made using Pax Dollars (USDP), a stable coin pegged to the US dollar developed by Paxos Trust Money.

Sending payment on Whatsapp works similarly to sending any attachment in the app. There are no fees for sending or receiving money, no limits on making payments, and no fees to keep a minimum balance in the Novi account. And the payments are transferred instantly.

According to the reports, Novi was piloted six weeks ago. Kraisel said,

“We’re still very early in the Novi pilot journey, so we made the decision to test this new entry point in one country to start and will look to extend it once we’ve heard from people what they think of this new experience,”

Stephane Kraisel also ensures that the user’s privacy on Whatsapp will not be affected as the chats would remain end-to-end encrypted.
