Despite U.S. lifting the ban, Huawei seems to be in no mood to give up on its own operating system. According to the new filings with the European Union Intellectual Property Office, Huawei has now registered the name ‘Harmony’ in reference to the mobile operating system.
Huawei’s New Mobile OS Could Be Called ‘Harmony’
If you are staying updated with the latest tech news, then you might remember that a few days ago, Donald Trump shocked everyone by assuring Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of G20 summit in Japan that he would allow the US Companies to sell products to the Huawei.
That means companies like Qualcomm, Google, etc. who were previously restricted from selling tech equipment to the Chinese company were now free from any restrictions.
However, during the ban, the Chinese company, of course, Huawei was reportedly found working on a new operating system. According to the company, the operating system will act as an Android alternative and it will be powering its future smartphones. The said operating system is ‘HongMeng OS’.
The CEO of Huawei, Ren Zhengfei even confirmed that their upcoming HongMeng OS will be approximately 60% faster than Android and MacOS. The CEO further said that Hongmeng OS is not a regular operating system that was meant only for smartphones. In fact, the operating system will also cover modern categories like PCs, Autonomous Vehicles and the Internet of Things.
Despite US lifting the ban, the company seems to be in no mood to give up on its own operating system. Instead, Huawei seems to have a new trick under its sleeves. According to the new filings with the European Union Intellectual Property Office, Huawei has now registered the name ‘Harmony’ in reference to the mobile operating system.
The same filings also suggest that the upcoming ‘Harmony’ OS will power both phones and laptops. So, Huawei’s new operating system remains quite mysterious. It’s also worth to note that the U.S. Commerce Department has permitted companies to do business with Huawei again. So, for now, Huawei is most likely to continue using Android.
