SpaceX Is ‘Sending A Linux-Powered Supercomputer To Space’ For The First Time

A SpaceX rocket will be launched from the popular Cape Canaveral base with a very special mission: bringing a supercomputer to the International Space Station (ISS). The mission will take effect next Monday when a rocket from the company of Elon Musk takes off from the base of Cape Canaveral as we told.

This machine, developed by HP Enterprise, is called Spaceborne Computer and will be used to make checks to determine the extent to which it may be possible to work with this type of technology in the conditions of space.

The project has the collaboration of NASA, being of great importance for the development of computational technology during the next years in space. Today, most of the work that requires a high level of computer-related technology is done on Earth, because so far it has not been possible to provide the ideal solution to carry it out under the circumstances. They give on the outside. However, this begins to be a problem.

The aspirations for the next years go through to carry out missions more and more far from the Earth, which supposes a greater impediment when receiving the information of the same ones with the current technology.

Latency increases and communication becomes heavy, slower and less reliable the further away from the ground base, which is why it is necessary to have large-scale computing equipment in space. HP Enterprise itself commented on this.

Here is what HP stated, “The experiment with Spaceborne Computer will not only show us what needs to be done in advanced space computing but also provide insights on how to improve the performance of technology on Earth and potentially affect other areas of technological innovation”.

This supercomputer works with a version of Linux and has a liquid cooling system created specifically for the occasion. In addition, HPE has had to develop software that could adapt to the conditions of the environment, varying and producing the necessary adjustments for the optimal operation of the same.
