The tech giant Google is one of the largest tech companies in the world, and one of the most powerful in the industry. As it has the ability to turn everything it touches into gold, and although its history is full of successes, such as Android or as a web search engine itself, not all Google launches have ended well, and it also has a long history of failures as well.

Among the tech giant, Google’s unsuccessful products are some that are still active, though slowly they are dying. In other cases, the company, of course, the tech giant Google has decided to close the service prematurely or replace it with another better service.

Hence, surely you might have been a user of some of the failures of the tech giant Google, which now thinks long before venturing into certain sectors, especially in the online messaging, something that has been resisting insistently for years.

Interestingly, despite these setbacks, the tech giant Google continues to multiply its ecosystem of applications and services, mostly successful. In addition, it has a fundamental ally to carry out its projects: Android, an operating system in which it has not stopped when it comes to pre-install its new apps.

However, now little by little, the tech giant Google is reaching more sectors. But, here, at the moment we will look back to review all the failures of the tech giant Google.

Google Plus

There is no doubt that it is the most famous failure of the tech giant Google’s recent history, of course, it is the social network, which is designed to compete against the social network giant Facebook, which was now forgotten, as simply it never came to meet expectations.

Despite the company’s attempts to make its users share content and participate, they never managed to do anything good to attract new users. As to make it a better place Google+ launched some new ideas, such as the circles in which you could choose who you wanted to share your publications. However, the fact is that after launching new essential features to attract new users still, it didn’t manage to keep all its users engaged.

Wave

The tech giant Google’s Wave arrived in 2009 and closed just a year later, as nobody used their service, the tech giant Google itself justified it. It is probably true, although the faithful user base that it has maintained did not like the decision at all.

This booming failure of the tech giant Google has more to do with a bad strategy of detention, and perhaps it came too early. At the moment it would make much more sense since it integrated the edition of documents of collaborative form, the lists of tasks and the messenger, something like an all in one for groups of work.

Right now, all these services have been integrated into the Gmail, a way to recognize the good test ground that Wave had in its days.

Buzz

This is another well-known failed product of the tech giant Google, which has lasted only for one year, from 2010 to 2011. It was immediately ingested by Google+, a service that promised to integrate all the others.

As Buzz didn’t get a great acceptance among Google users and it had only a few thousand of them. Basically, this messaging service was similar to Twitter, although the multiple failures of programming and development assigned it to a third or fourth plane.

It is another example of how the tech giant Google has tried and failed to try to gain market share in social networks, attempts that fortunately seem to have ended.

Allo and Duo

We are now going with a couple of more recent applications that the tech giant Google has not yet failed with. They are undoubted, Google Allo and Duo, announced to make hype a couple of years ago. However, they still receive updates, although the user base seems to be quite limited.

The first one, Allo, was launched to compete against WhatsApp and is an instant messaging app. While the second one, Duo, comes pre-installed on many Android devices and simply work as Skype and Facetime.

However, success has not been easy for either of them, who fight to retain a few users. As the operation of both is acceptable, and incorporate awesome features such as the integration of the virtual assistant Assistant in conversations. However, if you want to knock down a monopoly then you need much more than that.

Jaiku

The tech giant Google acquired the well-known microblogging site Jaiku in October 2007, but soon after its acquisition by January 2009 Twitter officially took the lead in the microblogging site. As we all know very well that a social network only become powerful when it manages to engage new and existing users and Twitter was already unbeatable in this segment by the time of this acquisition.

Google Video

This application is from the pre-YouTube era. Yes, before 2006, the year in which the tech giant Google decided to bet on online videos, hence, the Google Video was the app which was launched by the tech giant Google to share videos, an application with an integrated search engine and some of the features that have subsequently succeeded.

But, when the tech giant Google bought YouTube, simply moved this project to shelve, whose interface reminded and much to which VLC Media Player now looks. However, it was one of the first cases in which the tech giant Google simply bought the competition instead of trying to fly on its own.

Picasa

Picasa was an independent website until the tech giant Google bought it in 2004. It is basically, oriented to the online edition of photos, it was an ideal tool for Google, which already had a rough idea of its medium and long-term objective.

Almost ten years later, Picasa went into retirement with the launch of Google Photos, which is probably the most useful application for mobile devices. It is more modern and allows backups in the cloud, but also integrates some of the original Picasa features.

The acquisition was a long-term success, but perhaps a failed project of the tech giant Google at that time, since Picasa not only failed to grow but was gradually falling into nothing.

Google Answers

Google Answers is also one of the attempt of the tech giant Google through which the tech giant Google tried to beat the well-known Yahoo answers, but, we all know very well that Google didn’t manage to do so, hence, as a result, this project of Google also failed.

Google Glass

Finally, one of the great ideas of the tech giant Google that made a lot of noise and gave few futuristic ideas, as the Google Glass, which is basically an augmented reality glass that promised a lot and in the end, we’re all a failure.

As this technology, the AR would theoretically serve to provide information in real-time to its users, and would even have facial recognition. The reality was that its design errors and technological limitations doomed it to failure.

Google Lively

The tech giant Google’s, well-known project, Google Lively is one of the most compelling examples of “right idea, but, the wrong implementation”, as nobody has ever heard of this service of the tech giant Google, of course, Google Lively which lasted for six months only in the year 2008.
